Hi guy's I am putting this out there in the hope I can get some good advice. I am a SOE engineer for a 5000+ seat organisation in Australia, I have always had a interest in security and I spend a lot of my spare time reading about security related topics.

Recently I have been looking to realign my skills in the hope to move in this direction as a possible career path. Can anyone offer up some advice for someone starting out in regards to further training or indeed anything which may assist me on this journey ?

Thanks in advance.

There's a tonne of work in

There's a tonne of work in Web application code review. That's where most of the work seems to be at the moment.

Of course there are "security architect" and "security integrator/administrator" roles as well, but Web apps are hot right now.

Hot like Hansel.

Loving the Zoolander

Maybe I should look at improving my knowledge for web programming such as php, sql, javascript etc.... its food for thought but obviously these type of roles require some professional exposure to the subject matter. I may have to take a look around and see what kind of experience employers are looking for in this area.

A big up for risky biz btw, can't get enough of it ;)

Cheers

Yup -- and start looking at

Yup -- and start looking at all the basic Web application security bugs. Why not start by forging a solid understanding of the OWASP top ten?

Worst case you can enrole at the Metlstorm Center For Kids Who Can't Hack Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too... but you might have trouble squeezing into the building. :)
